The Story Behind the Delayed Release of Pooja Meri Jaan: Navjot Gulati's Frustration (2026)

A passionate outcry has been raised by filmmaker Navjot Gulati, who is frustrated over the prolonged delay in the release of his film, Pooja Meri Jaan. In an emotional interview, Gulati revealed that his father's final wish was to see the film before his passing in 2024, a wish that remains unfulfilled.

"They don't care about the small films," Gulati exclaimed, referring to the production house, Maddock Films. He expressed his disappointment and alleged that the producers have shown a lack of accountability, ignoring his calls and messages since October 2025.

The film, originally scheduled for release in 2024, has faced multiple postponements, with the latest delay pushing its release to February 2026. Gulati shared his concerns about the ongoing pricing negotiations with a streaming platform, which have been ongoing for nine months without a resolution.

"It's an unending cycle," he said, adding that Maddock Films seems to be holding out for a higher price, a move that has left him questioning their commitment to smaller projects.

But here's where it gets controversial... Gulati believes that Maddock Films' focus on big-budget movies has overshadowed their interest in smaller films like Pooja Meri Jaan. He fears that his film may suffer the same fate as Shoebite, directed by Shoojit Sircar, which remains unreleased despite years of discussion.

In a heartfelt social media post last year, Gulati expressed his grief over losing his father and the regret of not being able to show him his "life's best work." The post, tagged with the film's lead actors, Mrunal Thakur and Vikram Singh Chauhan, highlighted the director's hopes for the film's eventual release.

As of now, Maddock Films has not publicly responded to Gulati's remarks. The fate of Pooja Meri Jaan hangs in the balance, leaving audiences and the film industry wondering if this small film will ever see the light of day.

What do you think? Should production houses prioritize smaller films, or is it understandable that they focus on bigger projects? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
