The Gamecocks' fall from grace is most notable in the D1Softball rankings, where they've dropped from a preseason ranking of 13th to 20th, a seven-point decline. Similarly, Softball America moved them down four spots from 16th to 20th, and the combined ESPN.com and USA Softball preseason poll now ranks them as the nation's 20th-best team, down from 14th.
However, the NFCA/GoRout rankings offer some solace, as the Gamecocks remain at 16th, though this is still a four-position downward shift from last week. The team's next challenge is the Carolina Classic, a home tournament where they'll face Louisville Cardinals, Boston University Terriers, and Kennesaw State Owls over the course of two days.
The Gamecocks' games will not be broadcast on traditional television, but all four will stream on SEC Network+. The first game, against Louisville, is scheduled for Friday, February 13th at 1:30 p.m., followed by a match against Boston University around 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, February 14th, they'll face Boston University again at 3:00 p.m., and Kennesaw State Owls at around 5:30 p.m. Will the Gamecocks bounce back from their rankings drop?
