Unrecognised International Star Touches Down in Sydney
The past few months have seen some of the biggest stars arrive in Australia, with fans mobbing them before they've even had a chance to make their way through the airport. But one international superstar got very lucky when she quietly touched down in Sydney this week.
New Zealand-born singer/songwriter, Lorde, made her way through Sydney's Kingsford Smith Airport, blending in with other travellers, barely recognised by those around her. The 29-year-old kept her look very low-key with a pair of black sunglasses covering her eyes, headphones on, and a black leather jacket to allow for Sydney's current unpredictable weather. A black pimple patch in the shape of a star was also spotted on the right side of her chin as she made her way through the terminal, occasionally gazing at her phone like any other local.
Lorde is currently in Australia for her Ultrasound World Tour, which kicked off at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on February 16th before continuing on through February in Sydney, Melbourne and ending in Perth on February 25th. The tour marks the singer's first performance in the country since her sellout Solar Power tour back in 2023.
According to critics, the star's first show in Brisbane offered a refreshing reminder that her career is far from dead, despite her five-year hiatus from our stage. And she knew it, too.
"I’ve literally never had a bad show in Brisbane, you just know how to do it," she told the packed arena, before confessing to her love for writing about life experiences.
"My absolute favourite feeling to write about is the feeling of huge f**king crush on someone."
Bursting onto the global stage at the tender age of 16 with her 2013 smash hit Royals, which topped charts worldwide and made her one of the youngest solo artists to reach number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, Lorde quickly cemented her reputation as a sharp, introspective and respected songwriter. Her debut album Pure Heroine gave pop music a bold new voice while 2017’s Melodrama earned widespread critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.
Now, with multiple Grammy wins, Brit Awards, and a fiercely loyal global fanbase, it’s wild to think that so many passengers on that plane to Sydney were unaware of the huge star sitting among them.
