The Bath Community Kitchen, a not-for-profit organization, has been tackling crucial issues like loneliness, isolation, and food poverty with a unique approach. Through weekly community meals and workshops, they've created a space where people can connect, find support, and enjoy a delicious, healthy meal.
But here's where it gets exciting: with a recent funding boost of £19,650 from the National Lottery, the kitchen is expanding its reach! They're now able to extend their services to Radstock in Somerset, ensuring more individuals can benefit from their incredible work.
And this is the part most people miss: it's not just about the food. Founder Rob Lewis emphasizes the power of cooking and eating together, which creates a sense of community and belonging. The kitchen has served over 5,000 people at their meals and welcomed over 3,000 to their workshops, including refugees, who find a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Volunteer Ellie Rymer describes it as a "special place" where people from all walks of life come together, creating a lovely family-like environment. She adds that the hands-on workshops, especially for kids who might not have cooked before, are a fun and engaging way to learn and connect.
The project's impact is immense, having prevented nearly four tonnes of food waste and providing a much-needed service to those at risk of homelessness or living in isolation.
