In a move to address these concerns, the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has announced the formation of the "Tour Architecture Council." Chaired by Jessica Pegula, the council aims to make improvements to the women's game, with a focus on sustainability and player well-being.
"The current calendar is demanding, and we want to ensure players can compete at their highest level without feeling overwhelmed," said WTA chair Valerie Camillo.
The council, comprising players, tournament directors, and WTA Tour chiefs, will work towards implementing changes as early as the 2027 season.
"This is an opportunity to make meaningful, immediate improvements while also planning for the long-term health of the sport," Pegula added.
